Parents of students with individual learning needs are often lost in the maze of special education, assessment, team meetings, goals and objectives, Alphabet Soup – as the IEP, LRE, IDEA, and WISC, WJ-IV ILC, RPI, SS, 504.
Often, parents are said by teachers and children of the Study Team professionals who complete their child is successful in its ability cognitive function in a satisfactory performance. Parents do not consider the end of the discussion and can undermine these arguments.
I have worked with many parents of children diagnosed in the autism spectrum. Children who are diagnosed with the syndrome Asperger's often are at or above grade level in most areas. However, this does not mean that these children need education and related services to help increase the interdependence and independence.
This type of service, speech and language services (for the interaction of pragmatic and social) Occupational Therapy (for fine motor and sensory purposes), social skills group (for modeling social situations and interaction), Para Professional (to help with social and peer interaction or behavior) and classroom support can be integral elements of the progress of a child in school. Parents must be proactive and involved in their children's education and the creation of Individual Educational Plan. Parents should always question what the child's professional team study suggest that your child is Plan free appropriate public education, or is free and more convenient for school. Do not let a school, you say what best for your child, without looking at yourself, find your child's needs and provide information to you about that you think is best for education your child and work together with your child Study Team.
