In its 10th year of training last season, Arkansas, Houston Nutt was beaten 8-4 and No. 1-ranked LSU 50-48 in overtime in his last match. It was not good enough, so he resigned after controversy over his performance and was hired by Ole Miss coach of Mississippi.
Arkansas was 5.7 this year and has not been bowl eligible. Houston Nutt inherited a team that was 3-8 The Mississippi last season, was winless in the SEC and had not been a Cup final since 2003, when Eli Manning was the quarterback. This year, Ole Miss 9.4 after polishing off Fort Texas Tech Red Raiders 47-34 in the Cotton Bowl in 2008.
To say that the loss of Arkansas, became Mississippi gain is simply a massive understatement. Ole Miss students, fans and sponsors are stunned with enthusiasm and promise of a new glory to his beloved Ole Miss, and well they should.
Ranking No. 20 Mississippi came into the Cotton Bowl to 8-4 after starting the season 3-4 and smarting from consecutive defeats in South Carolina and Alabama, after breaking a huge upset 31-30 on the road against then No. 4-ranked Florida. Ole Miss would win their next 5 games, and Florida eventually won the national title by defeating Oklahoma 24-14, BCS National Championship Game.
No. 8-ranked Texas Tech came into the Cotton Bowl with a victory of 1.11 seconds last 39-33 Texas firm. The Red Raiders bombing would end the year on the job No. 1 in the country to spend 413 + offensive yards per game, number 4 in the national total offense with 531 + yards per game and ranked No. 3 in scoring attack with 43 points per game.
In this context, Houston Nutt's Ole Miss players who have done and trust. To begin with, were the only team to beat eventual champion Florida Gators National.
Mississippi Texas Tech has identified 14 points in a couple of turnovers, and the second quarterback Jevan Snead to Ole Miss took touchdowns in the next 3 possessions, 8 yards to junior tight end Gerald Harris, 41 yards to senior receiver Mike Wallace, and another 21-yard pass to Harris.
At 27 meters Junior kicker Joshua Shene rebels to 24-21 in the rest. Ole Miss must not exceed the Red Raiders' vaunted offense in the last half of the staff 23-13 have 47-34 points.
This nifty interception return 65 yards for a touchdown by junior corner Marshay Green to Ole Miss a new level. Green is also running another 63 yards on a kickoff return of an apparent TD was called by an official rule-nine boundaries and two-thirds of a subway line. Any picked up 101 yards on 11 carries (9.1 yard average) and 5 low-foot-8, 165-pound junior receiver Dexter McCluster would take another 97 yards on 14 carries (6.9 yard average). McCluster also caught 6 passes for 83 yards.
Note that Mississippi 4 losses this year totaled a combined total of 19 points, making it even worse when the loss of Texas Tech coach Mike Leach said: "They are an awfully good football team." I'm glad that counts, Mike.
Competition made history in at least three ways. This was the last Cotton Bowl will be played at the Cotton Bowl Stadium, ended a 73-year run. Next year the Cotton Bowl will move to the new Stage 1.1 billion in the construction of the Dallas Cowboys in the NFL. Secondly, the score was 47-34 to end as much points (81) to be ever scored in a game the Cotton Bowl. Third, the 88,175 fans, on the one hand represent the largest crowd ever.
Believe me when I say that you have not heard the last of the first-year coach Houston Nutt and his Ole Miss players. On the horn because the rebels are coming.
